A correction to my previous post - the link to enable IPMI is System Configuration -> Security -> External Services Management.

Hi,
Tommi, Manju, thank you very much for the swift and helpful information.
Concurrently enabled IPMI via ASMI System Configuration -> Power Management -> Security -> External Services Management, taking effect immediately.
With the sampling rate set to 5 minutes for now, going back to the Environmental dashboard the Current usage details now shows values for the all the metrics and can see the data points on the chart. Excellent! (The gap is me turning off and on data collection. Probably not required but just in case)
Thank you again,
Jozsef

Hi,
If the system does not support the Energy Metrics, then in the GUI we display the message on its capability.
For power 8/9 systems IPMI interface is used to collect the energy metrics. HMC will not be able to collect the power usage metrics if the IPMI interface disabled for the system. You can launch ASMI interface of the system and select System Configuration-> External Services Management. If the "IPMI" is disabled, you can enable it and save. If the IMPI interface is enabled and still you are not able to get the power usage information, then we might have to check the logs to see why energy collections are not happening. You can open a case so that development can check the logs. Thanks!

Hi Jozsef,
If your Performance collections for Managed frames are Enabled and working fine, I think you should be all set.
To my understanding, that (Performance collection set On) is the only requirement in addition to HMC v1060.
No extra requirements mentioned here either:
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/power10/9028-21B?topic=later-environmental-dashboard
As one comment, I just updated my Development vHMC to 1060 yesterday, currently it manages only 2 P8 frames.
And this morning when I checked the Environmental Dashboard; it shows figures OK for the 2nd Frame..but nothing for the 1st frame.
(and I just updated my HMC, did no Settings change for the Managed frames etc, Performance Collection was set On for both frames already before HMC update)
We have noticed similar behaviour earlier (we have been collecting Energy comsumption via HMC REST API before this Dashboard availability)
For some frames REST API just don't return anything. :( But once we have done some Frame maintenance (e.g done Power Cycle = Frame Power Off / Power On) ; after that the statistics have started coming on. So if there is possibility (probably not, if your frames are production frames) ; that Power Cycle might be something to give a shot..
Br,
tommi

Hello,
HMC V10R3M1060 was released on 14 June 2024, and among the many included enhancements I was excited to see this in the Readme:
- New environmental dashboard for displaying sustainability metrics that include historical data and trends for power usage, inlet temperature and carbon footprint over a specific period of time.
Installing this update on our first HMC yesterday, one of the first things I did was to check that data collection was turned on, waited for a couple of hours and hit Refresh. And nothing appeared in the Power trends chart. When I hit Refresh, grid lines appear very briefly in the chart area, but that is it. 15 hours later, still nothing.I have tried three different browsers - Edge, Chrome, Firefox, with the cache cleared for each.
The monitored server's - 9009-42G - firmware is at VL950-FW950.B0 (149), currently the latest firmware level available..
The Performance Dashboard works fine, so have I missed something to make the Environmental Dashboard work?
Any comments and advice most welcome.
Thank you.
