I am having an issue where I can only sign onto one 5250 session. I checked the system value, QLMTDEVSSN , and it's set to 0 for do not limit. Anyone have any ideas?

    Dear Michael

Does the system value QLMTSECOFR has the value of 1? If so, does your user profile has *ALLOBJ or *SERVICE special authority?  If so, this can be a possible cause of your issue.    What is the display device name of your 1st 5250 screen? Is its name also specified in the system value QCONSOLE?

If QLMTSECOFR = 0 or your profile does not have *ALLOBJ nor *SERVICE, what happens or what system message do you see (at  the bottommost line of the session screen) when you sign on to the 2nd 5250 session?

    Dear Michael,

The QLMTDEVSSN system value is used only if the LMTDEVSSN parameter of the user profile is set to *SYSVAL. Checks to see if, for this user profile, LMTDEVSSN would not have a value of 1.

    Dear Dominique

Thanks for pointing out this parameter. I have never dealt with it before at all.   By the way, IBM i help information about this parameter also indicates that *YES is equivalent to 1 as well.

    Hi Michael,

In your 5250 session, check under the Communication>Configure menu.  Confirm that the "Workstation ID" is blank, or click the "Generate" button and confirm that the "Avoid duplicate names" checkboxes are checked.  Personally I prefer to just use the "Specify workstation ID" option and keep the workstation ID blank.  I never have a problem getting a device name this way.  If something has been hardcoded into that field, and the checkboxes are not checked, you will only be able to run a single session.

    Hi

You also have the parameter LMTDEVSSN in the user profile. In that parameter you can specify a different value from the system value QLMTDEVSSN
