  • 1.  zos Connect desginer tool really requires DOCKER

    Posted 12 days ago

I am trying to use this tool now for support of our OPEN API 3.0 YAML.

But to my surprise this tool has to have a DOCKER DESKTOP or CLOUD Install otherwise we cannot sue this tool at all.

I have asked my certification team to get this free tool from this site. But when they tried to get this it is asking them have a DOCKER DESKTOP available and and also they said if they can get this every App developer should have DOCKER tool otherwise they cannot use this tool? Is this TRUE. we use Zos Explorer to develop Apis and i was hoping this designer tool is another plug in to this and would be able to use in EXPLORER or it may be another IBM stand alone tool i can use.

Can someone help me how to get a stand alone version so we can leverage this tool, for our Modernization effort... again this is needed for modernizing DB2 Stored PROCS and this tool will help developers but if we have to provide DOCKER and other CLOUD tools to use this then this is out the window for us...

    Hi

the Designer in zOS Connect OpenAPI3 provides enhanced capability for developers at customers to create REST APIs to access zOS.

    As per this link:

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/zos-connect/3.0.0?topic=connect-what-is-zos-designer

z/OS Connect Designer is supported by any OCI-compliant container platforms. For more information, see IBM z/OS Connect system requirements.

You can use these to run the Designer image:

    • docker, thougth Docker desktop requires a license from Docker
    • podman - my understanding is that there is no charge/license for this

Docker and podman can be run on Windows, Mac, or in a container runtime like zCX in zOS, OpenShift etc

It cannot be run in zOS Explorer
