  • 1.  Wired Barcode Scanners to Tablet

    Posted Tue September 01, 2020 06:01 AM
    Hi,

Has anyone managed to get a barcode scanner wired to a Android Tablet?

I haven't had much luck in trying to find a scanner that supported Android via USB cable. Most all seem to only support via Bluetooth

I know the apps can use the camera but we have a requirement to use physical hand held scanners and users are not tech-savy to continually check that the scanners are connected via bluetooth

    Thanks
    Chris

I have not personally done this but, if your USB connected scanner uses a Wedge type interface then when you tab on the field you wish to have scan function act, you should be able to just pull trigger on scanner.  If Wedge top interface then it will act as keyboard input.  Have you tried this and it failed?

We've managed to get the Zebra DS2208 to work. Just had to get an USB-C hub so that could power both the tablet and scanner.

Also had to go into Android settings and enable "Show on-screen keyboard" on the Physical keyboard settings. As the scanner acts as a physical keyboard you still want the on screen keyboard for typing.
