Welcome to our latest edition of Product Potpourri!  Below you'll find questions raised by students from the Apptio University Instructor-led classes.  As an Instructor, I always enjoy having a great discussion in class about any of our Apptio products or functionalities.  Hopefully, these questions and answers will help you with questions you may have as well!

• How do I find the Reference Application in the new APEX version of Apptio?
  • To find the Reference Application click on the widget wheel on the upper right-hand side of the screen. In the drop-down choose Reference Applications to get into the reports sandbox. 

• Can I search for custom reports or Self-Service Reports using the Apptio Value Explorer?
  • The Apptio Value Explorer will only search through Apptio OOTB reports, but it will not search for custom or SSR reports. To search for custom reports, go to TBM Studio, then in the Project Explorer scroll down to the Report section.  From here you can use the Filter bar to search for reports you have created yourself by name. 

• Can you make a chart into a drill report in Self Service Reporting (SSR)?
  • Yes! One of the benefits of SSR reports is the ability for any of your users to make their own reports, including creating drills.  For the full directions on how to work with SSR to create a drill go to the Apptio Help Center, found here. 

• Can you manually set the size of the modal pop-up windows?
  • Currently, this isn't possible, but if you'd like to add this as a product enhancement request, please contact the Apptio Support team.

Thank you, @Justin Kean. These #productpotpourri articles always bring up some hidden gems:
 

1. I need to use more the Reference Application. By now I am so used to our installation that I forget that there are other ways of doing (TBM) things.
    
2. Likewise, the Apptio Value Explore should be closer to my day-to-day toolkit, actually in my TBM tool belt, paraphrasing @Clare Smit in her wonderful TBM Rex article.
   I might try to reconstruct the Use Case table, so that it displays our custom reports, instead of the OOTB ones, like AVE does.​​​
    
3. Yes, I have tried the drill-downs in SSR reports. They work as you'd expect. I'll be exercising them in my upcoming SSR internal training in a couple of weeks' time.
   
   What doesn't work so well is:
   1. Multiple filters don't work properly. Apparently fixed on 12.9.10+, but we're not there yet :(
   2. Still unable to filter on the data, like we can in CT reports. I have mentioned this.
4. I hadn't thought about the modal windows' sizes so far. It took me a while getting the hang of the drill-down options in the CT reports, and I'm pretty sure there are things I don't quite know how to do when the report has a drill-down already.
