I agree on both accounts, @Jon Sober.
1) A few times I have Saved as a report, only to find that CT created it as a child of the original one. Yes, I can mark it as a top level report, but...ββ
2) With tables is even worse, as you point out. Sometimes I create a table, but then decide to give it a different name. That doesn't work. As I explored in the TBMC20 hackathon, development/TBMA support tools are... rudimentary in the Apptio suite. Still need to enter an enhancement proposal πππ

I think I've worked around renaming reports (within a project) by using the Save As option on a report, and then deleting the old report once I've got everything else sorted (collection, typos, etc.)
I have found it frustrating that I can't do the same with tables.

Moving reports is always a tricky proposition. I find it VERY annoying not being able to rename reports. Sure, I can change the alias, but... Often, I've had to create the report with the new name and copy to the clipboard all the elements in the old one and then to paste them into the new one.

Subject: Welcome to Product Potpourri Episode 10!
I'm excited to post our tenth Product Potpourri blog post of student questions! It's been a fantastic teaching year and I really appreciate all of the students that have contributed questions for this series. Their excitement in class makes my job a joy and I'm looking forward to more classes soon. In the meantime, here are our four latest standout questions:
- What's the easiest way to see a description of all reports available in a project? We offer the Apptio Value Explorer (AVE) for any out-of-the-box reports only, there isn't currently a way to see individually created reports. The AVE can be found under the widget wheel in the upper right corner of Apptio, under the Data Advisor listing. Choosing Data Advisor will open a new browser tab with both the Data Explorer and the Value Explorer. Select the AVE and you can use this filter functionality to search for description keywords or other filters.
- Can you transfer reports between projects? Although it is possible to transfer reports there are some specific steps you'll need to complete to accomplish this. For this reason, we recommend talking with your CSM or your Account Manager for assistance before you attempt to copy a report. Please note that all changes must be completed within a single browser tab.
- Go to the report you want to copy and click on the copy-report button.
- Within the same browser tab navigate to the second project and paste the copy over.
- To successfully copy a report the following criteria must be met:
- All tables must exist in both projects and must have the same columns (same spelling/capitalization/etc) to run the reports from. If you are copying an OOTB report make sure to check all settings to ensure you have the tables and columns needed for the copy.
- If the report uses a column created by a formula then the same formula/column calculation has to be created in the second project as well.
- If there's a date range called in the report it has to be within the date range you call for in the second project as well. If the date range isn't included within the date range for the project your copying to it may cause problems with the application that include freezing.
- Can you import descriptions with your tables? No. Descriptions are free text fields and are not part of an import. This means you wouldn't see the descriptions as part of your importing a table.
- What is the Tier for System Generated Overviews, found in objects above the object identifiers, used for? Apptio will automatically place any of the out-of-the-box modeled objects into a category for tracing capabilities. A custom modeled object won't automatically be assigned a stratum as part of your cost model, instead you will need to create a new tier for this object to populate. To create a new tier use this function, but it is recommended to ask for assistance from our CSM when attempting this for the first time.
That's all of our questions for now but I know we'll have more coming soon. In the meantime I hope you all have a fantastic holiday week filled with food, friends, and family!
