  • 1.  webMethods.io API Gateway (Free Forever Edition) - "502 Bad Gateway" Error (env321936.apigw-aw-us.webmethods.io)

    Posted 2 days ago

    Hello IBM Team and Community,

I'm using webMethods.io API Management (Free Forever Edition) and recently encountered an issue where my API Gateway UI is no longer accessible.

Whenever I try to open the following URL:
    https://env321936.apigw-aw-us.webmethods.io/apigatewayui/

    I receive this error message:
    502 Bad Gateway - nginx

    Details:

    • Edition: Free Forever Edition (webMethods.io API Management)

    • Region: US (apigw-aw-us)

    • Affected Service: API Gateway UI

    • Error: 502 Bad Gateway

    • Issue started: 29-Sept-2025

    • Impact: Unable to access or manage APIs from the webMethods API Gateway dashboard

I had already opened a support case, and IBM Support directed me to post here for Free Forever Edition assistance.
Could someone from the webMethods.io team please check if there's any outage or environment issue affecting this tenant?

Thank you for your time and help!

    Hi,

this can have various reasons. The most common one: Your API GW is down.
Have you checked you "SAG Cloud" panel and that it is started?

    notes:
    1)  For the FFE Systems there is an auto-shutdown process for not used API GW instances.
          https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/wams/wm-api-gateway-saas/11.1.0?topic=edition-ffe-tenant-lifecycle

    2)  IBM announced to discontinue FFE tenants. For details see also our blog at:

    Hello,

I'm using the IBM webMethods iPaaS Free Forever Edition.
My API Gateway instance (env321936.apigw-aw-us.webmethods.io) shows "502 Bad Gateway" when I try to open it.

However, I can still see the API Gateway and Developer Portal listed under my Software AG Cloud dashboard:
    https://env321936.mycloud-us-west-2.softwareag.cloud

It looks like the tenant is still active but possibly stopped.
Could you please confirm if I can manually restart it, or if it has been deactivated due to inactivity?

    Thank you!

That looks good, the API GW is considered as "active". To check if it started follow the link on "open".
This is when you get the 502 error or you get a login screen and afterwards the 502?

No, you can not restart the tenant yourself.

I have seen this before myself, where the API Gateway is actually gone (often deleted due to inactivity) or in an unusable state, but the home page doesn't know it's offline. I'm sorry, but there's no remedy for this condition and it's best to contact Sales to purchase webMethods Hybrid Integration.
