  • 1.  Validating ILMT Audit report

    Posted Fri April 23, 2021 04:37 AM
    Hi Everyone

We are in the process of installing ILMT for the first time and are not sure if our audit logs that are being generated are correct, based on the settings we have used. Is there any way to find out if the audit log is what IBM will require?

    G'day Dale.

At this link, IBM describes the reporting requirements they have associated with ILMT. In it, they direct you to your Passport Advantage Agreement. It is in here that they detail exactly what you need to produce to satisfy the auditors.

Just as an FYI, we wrote an extended piece at ExploringTM1 that explains ILMT and all about it with TM1 at this link: https://exploringtm1.com/tm1-ilmt/.

Let me know if. you have any equations regarding it.

    Cheers,

    John

We looked at this a few years ago and struggled to get anyone from IBM to validate the reports would satisfy an audit.
We have come across a few audits
    ILMT Highlights
    - the report produced should provide details of PVU used by VM (where TM1 DB is installed) and the host. I would setting frequency to monthly.
    - ensure you maintain records for at least 2 years,
    - Good news is their is a database that should hold all history which can be queried via the ILMT interface should some reports be missing. But I prefer to have a set of PDF reports generated from the system.
    - The idea behind the ILMT reports is to provide evidence that PVU license has not been exceeded during it life on a VM.

    User count

    - May not be produced in the ILMT report output, however make sure you are reviewing number of users and security assignments on a regular basis. Often leaver ID's are left within TM1 and it can be a painful process of having to provide evidence that those ID's are inactive.
    - "Admin" user ID. .The "Admin" system user ID is counted as an Admin license (yes I know it sounds silly, but a fact so make sure you are not using and can support that statement.)
    - TM1 is licensed on named basis, so having generic names such as "ForUserSecurity", as an example, would be a breach as it infers more than one person can use the ID.
    - Consider moving away from Mode 1 and integrate with AD or something similar. This will help with ensuring leavers are de-activated as well as provide other benefits.

That doesn't sound right. Does the admin license we bought already include this built-in one? E.g. if we own 5 admin licenses, only 4 persons can actually be admin?

I should have worded this a little better but difficult as complex area.
Given "Admin" is not a named user and is a system ID, it is a little a little grey when queried with IBM
Just to be clear, you do need to have named user against a login ID which requires a license. Hence Admin should NOT be included in the count.
However, if you do use the Admin ID on a regular basis, then it can be construed as using a license.
