Dear Thomas
The job log of the QOBJCSVR server in the target machine shows that the initiation of the OBJC link worked fine. The problem happened after the link
initiation.
I'm not sure what you meant by "database entries"? Is it in WRKRDBDIRE command? If so, you have a misunderstanding as I'm sure RDBDIRE has nothing to do with ObjectConnect over native IP . If not, please help elaborate more on this.
I always specify IP address in SAVRSTXXX commands and see no need to use IBM i Host Table in any way.
Anyway, I see a response from IBM WW Support that an APAR was opened for my problem now, after a long wait.

Subject: V7R4 ObjectConnect over native IP fails with CPFAD84 internal error, function code 04, return code 31.
The error message indicates a connection problem between the source LPAR and the destination LPAR.
First, I would look at the database entries on both LPARs. There should be entries pointing to the corresponding databases. Then you should use CFGTCP option 10 to see if there are any corrosponding entries. Sometimes also a problem: User and password.
If this does not solve the problem, you should post the JOBLOG of the job executing the SAVRSTOBJ.
Regards Thomas
