  • 1.  Using the legacy Network diagram

    Posted 07/22/20 10:02 AM
    Hi,

I hope someone can help with this one... I am new to Cognos Analytics (v11.1) and need to create a Network Diagram.  The one I need was found in the Legacy Diagrams section.  I wasn't able to attach a pic for some reason.

I'm trying to find instructions on how to use this, primarily what the data set should look like and which elements go where in Cognos.  I think once I see an example I can apply this to my own use case.

This is what it the diagram wants to map from a data set:
    • Network Diagram Nodes
      • Values
        • Color (must be a measure or a single value)
        • Size (must be a measure or a single value)
      • Categories
        • Node (Numeric)
        • Name
    • Network Diagram Links
      • From node (numeric)
      • To node (numeric)

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

    Hello Dave,

Please see sample built for your understanding.

    1. In the Nodes1 data container, drag items to Node (Numeric) and Name.
The nodes data container defines the items that you want to link together, such as Employees, defined by an employee code.
    2. In the Links1 data container, drag items to From node (Numeric) and To node (Numeric).
The links data container defines relationship between the items that you want to link together, such as Employees and Managers.
    Hope this clarifies.

Thank you.  Is the Manager code just another Employee code from the same table?  Trying to understand the underlying data model.
