Due to significant map limitations in Anywhere, my roads & parks technicians will need to have multiple devices for field work:

    1. Anywhere on Tablet for inspections
    2. Maximo Classic on Microsoft Surfaces for processing SRs (tethered to cell phones)
    3. Corporate cell phone or radio for verbal communication about work
    4. And we'll continue to use paper inspection forms for scenarios where the Anywhere map is insufficient (paperwork will be typed up by administrative assistants)
    Question:

Does anyone have any experience with using Maximo on Surfaces/Laptops — in the field?

    Thanks!

A Surface is 'just' another computer, so nothing special, however, without knowing the limitation you've got with Maximo Anywhere, you can build Maximo Anywhere also for the surface as it's Windows 10 compatible.  The Surface though is not in the ruggedised device territory, so ensure that you've got a very good case.

Just like Craig Kokay said. MAS360 integration is another way on mobile to Maximo. Even using mobile's hot spot + vpn to your org's in house applications.

This sounds like a less than ideal scenario, user experience is key and .  I would suggest asking the really important questions, some of which you have already answered.

    Who - Technicians
What - Updating SR and perfoming inspections
    Where - In the field
    Why:
    - what does 'processing a SR' mean to you?  just approving or adding/updating data, if so what data.  I'm sure there is a reason why you are leaning towards the desktop solution.  There may be alternatoves but a deeper understanding of your requirements and identified blockers are needed.
    - I assume there is a typo in point 4 (Anywhere Map should this be Anywhere app), have you considered using inspection forms in Maximo for these scenarios?

What is your connectivity like in the field?  I assume if you are looking at a surface with a teathered conneciton you must always have connectivity.
