Using Inspection Required in Desktop Requisitions

We need to allow Desktop Requisition submitters and approvers to mark requisition lines for Inspection Required, but I can't figure out how to enable the checkbox. Can someone direct me to more information about this? Thanks.

In the screenshot, at what stage of the process are you?  It looks like the record has already been saved and likely approved, so everything would & should be read-only.  That checkbox should be editable while creating the Requisition & while the MR is in the WAPPR status.

It's read-only in both new and draft.

I think the screenshot you took is from the View Drafts application.  In View Drafts, the whole thing is supposed to be read-only.  You then have to click the "Create/Edit Requisition" button to go over to the Create Requisition application.  Once there, on the 2nd tab of the wizard, you should be able to edit it; on the last tab -- the review -- it would also be read-only.

If that's not what you're experiencing in your environment, what version are you on, and I'd suggest you start looking for any customizations that have been made -- start with the Application Designer, toggle everything on, and see if something was added to make the input mode READONLY.  Could possibly also be java customizations or scripting.  Do you have an OOTB environment to compare to?

Does it open up when another Line Type is selected?  Like Item?

    No, it doesn't.

The checkbox is read-only in View Drafts, View Requisition, and Create Requisition.

The line details seem to all be defined in LIBRARY.XML, where the inputmode="readonly" attribute was hard-coded in all three. I deleted that attribute for the Create Requisition line detail, then tested a requisition from creation to receipt, and the inspection required attribute followed the MR line all the way. This appears to be exactly what I wanted; I only hope there aren't unanticipated side effects.

    Hi Robert,

I'm confused.  If I create a new DR, I can select the inspection required regardless if it is an item or material.

In the screenshot, everything is read-only so of course you can't select the field.  We are missing one other piece of information which is what status is the DR.  The DR can only be edited in the DRAFT status.  There may be confusion with the WAPPR status as it is literally 'Waiting on Approval' with no edit rights, unlike the work order where it starts its life in WAPPR, a DR starts as DRAFT.

Just as a reference for those that don't know.  The way to get a DR into WAPPR is to have the DR submitted to a workflow where there is a task node, otherwise when you submit if will automatically be approved.

It is unusual to have the person who is approving the DR edit the requisition.  Remember it goes DR --> PR --> PO.  The inspection flag can be set when the DR is DRAFT, the PR when it is WAPPR, the PO when it is WAPPR.  For items, it should really be set on the item or via the company rather than on the DR.  For materials, yes that is up the requestor or later down the chain, but only at the nominated status.  You may have to look at and who's setting the inspection required flag.

    Hope that helps.

I'm embarrassed. Back in 2020 we changed LIBRARY.xml to make the inspection required checkboxes read-only because users were ticking the box without knowing what they were doing. Since we didn't have an inspection process set up, and didn't have a HOLDING location, this was throwing a wrench into the receiving process. All I have to do is reverse that change.

    Sorry for wasting everyone's time.

    Hi Robert,

It's always great to have others understand features.  This is also a bit of a classic where a field/section/tab was added/removed/changed a long time ago, forgotten that it was not part of or was part of standard Maximo.  Bit of a politician's answer there, but it's there is a good reason sometimes to have a bog standard (with the patches) version of Maximo to validate if that's what is supposed to happen.  Heck, that's all IBM Support has.

    Good luck and keep posting
