  • 1.  Using addvdiskcopy in a PBHA environment

    Hello All, 
    Normally, in an SVC \ Flashsystem environment (9.1.x.x), I can create an additional copy of a vdisk in a different extent pool using either the GUI or the CLI; this is done via `addvdiskcopy`.
    However, I currently have vdisks located in a (PBHA) partition. The GUI does not offer the option to create a copy (mirror) of such a vdisk.
    I can execute this via the CLI.
    Running `rmvdiskcopy` for copy 0 or copy 1 via the CLI also appears to work correctly.
    If I attempt this via the GUI, however, the entire vdisk is deleted.
     
    I am looking for a statement or document confirming whether or not creating a volume copy of a PBHA vdisk is supported.
    Does anyone know where I can find this?

    Hello Johan,

    if vdisk mirroring for vdisks located in a (PBHA) partition would not be supported, it also would not allow you to create the vdisk copy via `addvdiskcopy`CLI command. The knowledgecenter documentation also does not state any general constraint - apart from special cases such as vdisks being part of cloud snapshots or partical image mode scenarios - but those also would block the addvdiskcopy command then.

    My current guess is that you just looked at the wrong area in the GUI? The "add vdisk copy" option has moved to the detail view of a volume. When you have the entire volume list you first have to click on the desired volume to open the detail view of the volume. Now you can find an "Actions" Button on the top right corner, which also offers you the option "Add volume copy". And this also works for vdisks that are located in a (PBHA) partition - I just tested it on our test machine that runs 9.1.1. code

    Found it-it was indeed located under the VDisk details.
    Sometimes I find myself missing the older screens. 😉
     
    And you have to delete the copy from there as well.
    If you do it from the initial volume list, you end up deleting the entire VDisk instead of just the specific copy you wanted to remove.
