  • 1.  Upgrading OLD AMI in amazon to recent machine generation

We have our deployment setup in AWS using IBM AMI.

The initial version we installed with was 7.3.1 P2, and over time upgraded the deployment to the now 7.5.0.7 version.

We noticed that the instances can be upgraded from m4.xxxxxx to m6 to reduce cost and add additional capabilities.

When we try to change the instance type in AWS we get an error "The instance configuration for this AWS Marketplace product is not supported. Please see the AWS Marketplace site for more information about supported instance types, regions, and operating systems."

Looking further into it, it seems that the original subscription for 7.3.1 P2 is not permitting the new machine types and only m4.xxxx

Does anyone have experience with this issue and if it is possible to fix without recreating the whole deployment from scratch?

    Hello,
Unfortunatley since the original marketplace image for 7.3.1 (which was used to build the systems) is incompatible with m5/m6 VM types in AWS, there is no current supported method to migrate without building new instances. This is regardless of the current version these hosts have been patched up to (7.5.0 UP7) in your case, as AWS will not allow the migration based on the original image type.

Thank you very much for looking into it, it took us some time to get this answer which we suspected is the only answer.
