    What should I update to? Should I go up to the latest fix pack, which is 5200-10-06-0835? Or should I go up just a few fix pack, to something like 5200-08-CSP? Or, should I go up just one fix pack a time, say jump to 5200-04, then wait, then go up to 5200-05, etc?

    The goal is to make this server as stable as possible. We don't need to worry too much about security fixes, but it never hurts to have them.

    Any strategies and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Option A
    To migrate from 5.2 to 5.3 while preserving the existing root volume group (or the filesystems which you need). The installation process determines which optional software products must be installed. Do take mksysb backup first.

    Option B
    If you insist for 5.2 version then upgrade it to latest fix pack (5200-10-06-0835).

    According to me you option A is better as you require stable OS.
    Regarding security fixes, you and download and install it any time.

    So you think that I should just go to the latest fix pack... I guess I better spend some time reading about the fixes in each service pack.

    Okay.. Seems to me that you have a Live Server having some critical Applications in there which wouldn't allow you to reboot. Do take some technical help from IBM as the fixes or APARS in the latest fixpack might effect the ongoing applications if any.
