You can migrate from AIX 5.2 or 5.3 to 6.1. You have to do a migration though, you can't just start installing
6.1 patches. This should work on any of the 64 bit capable hardware, P4 or later.

The only way you can download 6.1 is if you have a paid contract with IBM and then there is a website
where you may be able to download an ISO image. Anytime you need the base level filesets (those ending in 0 such as 6.1.3.0) I have found it much easier to get CDs from IBM. Once you have base levels, you can download
all the patches you want.
