    Posted Mon February 27, 2017 02:18 PM

At the moment I am investigating the PM forecasting tool and how useful / effective it is. Specifically, I've been trying to understand the forecast function when the PM is not flagged as “ use last work orders start date to calculate next due date”. I have struggled to understand the way the function uses the Job plan Duration to calculate the next work order target  date. Does anyone have any information on how this function operates I would very much appreciate any assistance.

Check on = uses last target start date
Check off = uses last comp date

As far as I know, JP Duration is adds # of hours to Target Start/Time and adds appropriate number of hours to calculate Target Finish Date/Time. JPDuration is not involved with next work order target start date. That is based on last target start date (or last comp date) and the frequency (e.g. 3 MONTHS, 4 WEEKS, 1 YEARS, etc)

In the past, I've used PM Forecast to project how many hours you'll need for each month by craft. The graph is only as good as JPDURATION. It was kind of a pain to do because not only do you look at job plans, but also route_stops and figure who the lead or workgroup will be the final data point to appear in work order and figure out their craft from there.

I see you have used some way of exporting the information into a spreadsheet. Have you ever used the scheduler to display the PMs that are going to generate work orders and if so how? I can see that you can change the data source to the PM table but what query would you use?

    Hi

I have taken a look at this scenario using scheduler (V7.6.4 on Maximo 7.6.0.6)

To make this work you need a PM query and the PM records in the querymust have been forecasted up to the future date you are interested in.

One thing I see is that a forecast will ignore the Use Last Work Order's Start Date to Calculate Next Due Date? data field being unchecked thus making it's predictions based on the frequency not the actual finish date of the most recent work order - you can see this detail in the PM records Forecast tab

However, I have always been concerned about using the field unchecked as maximo will not generate the next work order if the PM work order is cancelled as this action does not add an actual finish date to the work order. hence the next PM work order is not generated.

the scheduler renders the future PM work orders in a linear manner along the time line of the gannt chart using the forecast records

The schedulers excel export function prints the next date for the PM records but does not print any of the future PM work orders in the forecast beyond the first instance. So any longer term forecast is lost with the excel data extract from scheduler - i'm trying to get IBM to look at this

It does account for the longer term records in a forecast when calculating the PM forecast costs and labour hours and this summary can also be downloaded from scheduler.

However if you have not licenced scheduler, then you can use the PM forecast function and build a report using that data in that table

this is a limitation I am  concerned about.
