  • 1.  Tool tips on Mobile devices

    Posted 06/29/20 12:17 PM
    Hi

In List cell, if we define tool tips using hover property, it doesn't work on mobile devices. Is there any way to make it work ion mobile devicves?

    Thanks for inputs!

    Hello Buddhi,

there is no such event ":hover" on mobile devices.

I would consider it to be "bad" to implement such a thing.

You might want to display it inline or onclick().

    Other Workarounds?

Thanks @Ralf Roeber!  Can we use an image icon to display data items on Mobile device? Please let me know if you have tried this option.

Hi Buddhi.  Can I clarify exactly what you're trying to do?
     - Is this the mobile app or are you access Cognos using a mobile web browser?
     - Android or iOS?
     - Are you using CSS or object properties to to the tooltip?
     - What kind of object are you trying to put the tooltip on?

    Hi @Tim Aston

IBM Cognos Mobile App is not working for standard reports; therefore, using Chrome/Safari browser on iOS for Mobile reporting.

I am using css hover property in list cells to show additional information. In Mobile device, since list rendering can be long, I am reducing number of columns but make other data items information available via tool tip.

    Hope this clarifies.

    Thanks for any other inputs!

You can use standard reports in the app in Classic Viewer mode (as long as you're on 11.0.13FP2+ or 11.1.3+).

Since you're using a web browser, there's really nothing fancy here.  Its all about how the web browser handles the :hover property.  There seems to be a lot of subtlety in this area, so you may need some extra research.

Most of the reports are interactive reports so really can't provide different options for different reports. If Mobile App works fine and can provide Tool tips functionality out of the box, it will be better solution in any way.

    Thanks for inputs!

    Hi Buddhi,

Are you using the IBM Cognos Mobile IOS/Android app?

Or is this happening in the IOS/Android device's browser (Chrome or Safari)?
