Tell Us: How do you prefer to give product feedback?

  • 1.  Tell Us: How do you prefer to give product feedback?

    Posted Wed April 09, 2025 06:51 AM

There are multiple ways to give product feedback, offer suggestions, or simply rate performance. What are your preferred ways to give product feedback?

    • Do you post on IBM TechXchange Topic Groups and Communities?
    • Are you a member of an IBM User Group?
    • Do you participate in a customer advisory board or council?  Would you like to?
    • Have you tried the IBM Ideas portal?
    • Do you write product reviews on Gartner Peer Insights, G2, or TrustRadius?

Product feedback helps innovation evolve through conversations, honest reviews, and contributions from you. Tell us your preferred way to give us feedback.

You can learn more about feedback opportunities by registering for the April 23 Webinar, "Advocacy through product feedback" - which will be live at 10am EDT.  This webinar is open to everyone!  Invite your colleagues and friends.

    Hi  Kathryn,

I regularly participate in the DB2-Communities and have indeed posted a few times in the IBM Ideas Portal. But i often felt that those channels don't get too much attention.
In order to give feedback and suggestions effectively, the direct and live contact to IBM's devs is crucial. Accordingly, the best way for me is through the TAB (Technical Advisory Board) and User Groups (DeDUG and IDUG)-Meetings/Summits, where the devs are always present

    Miguel,
Thanks for your post. Yes, direct contact with the IBM dev teams is always a great way to give feedback if you are able.  Advisory Boards and User Groups provide an excellent way to give feedback.
    We appreciate you!!

    Hi Kathryn,

To answer your bullet points first:-

    • Do you post on IBM TechXchange Topic Groups and Communities?  - Yes, but I wouldn't say that this was a way to provide product feedback.
    • Are you a member of an IBM User Group? - No
    • Do you participate in a customer advisory board or council?  Would you like to?  - A little
    • Have you tried the IBM Ideas portal? - Yes
    • Do you write product reviews on Gartner Peer Insights, G2, or TrustRadius?  - No

I prefer to give product feedback directly to the development organisation. I do this by being part of the Early Access program and also just sending emails to the development team directly.

    Cheers,
    Morag

    Hi Kathryn,

there are many ways to give product feedback and I have used most of them.
In my eyes face-2-face TAB (technical advisory board) meetings are the most effective ones as they are interactive and in person.

In addition to your list I would like to add:

    • Feedback to a lab advocate (extremely useful throughout the year)
    • Non-IBM User groups like IDUG and GSE
    • Feedback directly to developers at conferences (i.e. birds of a feather sessions etc)
    • UX feedback sessions

In general oersonal contact and networking is the best way to understand reason for some development and to influence product development although it need passion and engagement and dedidication to a product. It is always easier to criisie something than to try to get it into the right direction.

    Hi Kathryn,

    • Do you post on IBM TechXchange Topic Groups and Communities? Sometimes - answers/responses can be very hit and miss.
    • Are you a member of an IBM User Group? Yes - useful to an extent to share ideas
    • Do you participate in a customer advisory board or council?  Would you like to?  I have been in the past however they have been discontinued advisory boards for engineering brand products.
    • Have you tried the IBM Ideas portal?  I have submitted many ideas. From what I can see this is a good place for ideas to die at least for engineering product ideas. Just not enough activity on there to make it worth while.  In my opinion if the ideas portal could be made to work with people actively using it and voting for good ideas then I would be happy to use it.
    • Do you write product reviews on Gartner Peer Insights, G2, or TrustRadius? I have although I try to avoid them.
    • Design Partner Program is also a good way to give feedback,  if the brands use it to engage with users about what the products should be doing, rather then give forward looking of what has already been implemented which is where they are sitting at the moment.

    Hello Kathryn,

I have used the IBM Ideas portal a few times. And I assume the ideas posted there will be read by product management or development. But it takes a while before the result (we will pick this up, not pick this up, or not now) is specified. Sometimes what we feel as a bug is classified as a request for change. It is difficult to communicate with someone at IBM regarding an idea.

I personally feel that direct contact with someone in development is most useful, because of instant feedback, but it is certainly impractical if "everyone" would be able to contact development directly.

I have written reviews on Gartner, I don't know if IBM gets any follow-up (remarks) from those submitted reviews.

I will certainly register for the Advocacy through product feedback webimar and see what other options there are.

    Hi Kathryn,

I'm part of the IBM GDPS Design Council and the IBM Z Technical Council (IBM ZTC) and we have monthly meetings.

Besides that we are early adopters on several products and have many discussions with the Lab teams.

And last but not least, we do vote and submit IDEAS when necessary.

    Best regards

    Hi Kathryn,

I think product feedback is important, so I do a lot.

    • I'm a sponsor user for the Code4i RPG AI Code Assistant and already some several sessions with the team
    • I've submitted several ideas for IBM i and RPG and one was even delivered with one of the last TRs (for the interested, the SQL like SELECT xxx; WHEN-IS ... syntax) - and another got backed up by Barbara Morris herself (I'm flattered)
    • Personally I'm not a user group member, but the company I work for is member of COMMON Germany - I have to invest a bit more here
    • I'm looking forward to write a product review - but my favorite products are IBM i (where should I start and end) and RPG (I do a lot of advocacy for RPG but it feels like a retreat battle)
    • I think I would love working in a customer advisory board or council - but right now, I'm not at one.

So I definitely look forward to that webinar.

    Regards,

    Daniel

    Hi Kathryn,

    • Do you post on IBM TechXchange Topic Groups and Communities? Yes

    • Are you a member of an IBM User Group? Yes I'm currently the chairman for the UK and Ireland User Group that meets bi-annually. During our meetings we make sure the users have plenty of time to share their stories with other users, partners and with the developers. A great way to get feedback to those that need it.

    • Do you participate in a customer advisory board or council?  Would you like to? Yes I'm involved in the Virtual user group for Scheduling and also Operational Dashboard and Work Order Intelligence Sponsor User Group. These groups give direct access to see what the developers are planning and give feedback, before things are developed!! I'm finding these groups very informative and a great way to help steer the direction of development.

    • Have you tried the IBM Ideas portal? Yes and we encourage others to do the same at the user group meetings.

    • Do you write product reviews on Gartner Peer Insights, G2, or TrustRadius? Yes from time to time

    • Product feedback helps innovation evolve through conversations, honest reviews, and contributions from you. Tell us your preferred way to give us feedback.

    Kathryn,
CAC (client advocacy council) is my preferred method of feedback. The interactive approach of being honest about a product. For instance, the Omegamon CAC at IBM TE this past October. With an engaged audience who all agree on a huge gap in what the product is currently not doing. Discovering IP as part of CMDB data. Sparked so much conversation and feedback. Being able to be direct and passionate about our needs as users is so much easier expressed through a CAC. Ideation is great but there are times you have to really sell the idea to get traction. Some Ideas are naturally cool and there are others that just get sold really well. In CAC or other interactive event. Discussion can be so much more beneficial for IBM. Taking a gripe or an idea and work shopping it then is more prosperous.
