  • 1.  Taggable & Untaggable Spend

    Hello Community Members,

    Has anyone come across a list of AWS services/usage types that ARE taggable? 

    • Tag Explorer - Taggable Spend - launch the report link on the page. The report opens with Service Name as a Dimension. Add Usage Type and is this then CLDY's recommendation of all Services/Usage Types that could be your Taggable Spend for value "x"? 
      • In this case value "x" is an App-ID that is listed as (not set) for a given resource.

    On the flip side is there a known list of AWS services/usage types that are NOT taggable?

    • I am aware of the usual suspects such as Enterprise Support, Savings Plans, and Enterprise Discounts.
    • I thought CW:MetricMonitorUsage could not be tagged but oddly I am seeing this in both the Taggable Spend and Untaggable Spend.

    AWS docs aren't very friendly for determining untaggable resource types:

    Figured I'd give ChatGPT a try - this was the response: 

    As of my knowledge cut-off in 2021, there are several AWS resource types that do not support tags:

      1. AWS Global Accelerator endpoint groups
      2. Elastic IP addresses
      3. Internet gateways
      4. VPC peering connections
      5. AWS Direct Connect connections
      6. AWS Organizations organizations
      7. AWS Control Tower landing zones
      8. Amazon Route 53 hosted zones
      9. Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS) topics
      10. Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS) queues
      11. AWS CloudFormation stack sets
      12. Amazon CloudFront distributions
      13. AWS Certificate Manager certificates

    This is not an exhaustive list and the support for tags on AWS resources may change over time. Please refer to the AWS documentation for the latest information on which AWS resources support tags.

    ChatGPT amazing, but should be verified of course. :-)
