  • 1.  String Measures not behaving as expected

    Posted 12/31/19 10:37 AM
We are on 11.0.13 on Cloud and I am building a simple list report against a PA Cube Data Module as a data source.  The report works fine when my only measure is a number, but when I add a string measure to the list, the report fails with a "XQE-GEN-0010 Found an internal error: 'XQERuntimeException'" error.  And now I can't delete the string measure from the query, I get an error "This feature is not available in this version", which is strange when I am just trying to remove a data item from the query.

I found fix "PH0055" that says it was closed as not reproducible, but I'm wondering if this is the same issue.  Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Hello Kizzy - I'm intrigued by the idea of a "string measure". Is this numeric values stored as strings ("10", "12.6")?
What would you expect "correct behavior" to be?

I'm sorry, I don't have any idea why you cannot remove the data item.

    Hi Opher,

String measures are cube values that are text, in my case a Start Date and an End Date, as opposed to numeric.  The measure "Type" is set to String in TM1 (Planning Analytics).  In my Cognos Analytics report I would expect (when looking at the lowest level of all the dimensions) that the start and end dates would appear as text, just as they do in TM1.

I may submit a case with IBM, but thought I would try here first.

    Thanks!

Is the data item still being referenced in the report? If there's an invalid report XML, you might be getting that error when it attempts to remove the data item from the page object.

Are the guided report layout and recommended visualizations turned on? I've seen a few errors when building reports, especially with cubes.

It actually behaves the same way if the data item is referenced in the report or not (meaning, I can't delete it directly from the query).  Incidentally, if I delete it from the list in the report page, it will also be removed from the underlying query, so I do have a way of removing it after all.

With regard to your question on guided report layouts - is that a feature available starting in 11.1?  I don't see the option.

Check out Report Options -> Report. Those are new options as of 11.1.

Also, are you inserting them as extended data items? If so, what happens if you drag in a query calculation and insert the measure that way?

Hi Paul - I've tried just dragging and dropping from the source, creating a calculated measure, and a data item - each gives the same error when I run the report or try to view tabular data.

Do you have any slicers in your query? What happens if you try to view the MDX?

Can you try rebuilding the query step, testing tabular and viewing the MDX with each one? I recommend starting with the string. I realize you won't see anything if it's not returning exactly the correct intersection, but at least this way we can start determining where the problem is.
