  • 1.  Storage Defender setup

    I would like to ask about the "kickstart" for installing Storage Defender. The goal is to scan content for ransomware. So far, we have only purchased 10TB, or rather this product: "IBM Storage Defender Resource Unit Subscription License per Month." I think a VM would be sufficient for testing, because IBM representatives suggested a physical machine for performance reasons. The environment is a virtualization cluster under VMware, SAN via fiber channel, and a physical backup server with Veeam. Could someone please write me a few basic steps regarding the architecture and installation? I have access to the software and licenses, but there is so much to it that I don't understand it. Thank you.

    You can read our IBM Redbooks publication "Cyber Resiliency with IBM Storage Sentinel and IBM Security" at  https://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg248562.html

    Chapter 3 contains the information about sizing and physical vs. virtual scanning engines. and chapter 5 is about scanning vmware workloads. We've updated this Redbook for the latest releases and it will be published soon but this version also will work for you.

    You will need;

    - IBM Storage Defender Copy Management to orchestrate safeguarded snapshots on your FlashSystem and execute the scanning process on scan engine (sentinel). This is an ova deployment product and easy to install product, for the installation requirements see IBM Docs for SCDM. 
    - IBM Storage Defender Sentinel is used to scan safeguarded snapshots (this is what exactly you want). I already sent the Redbook and here's also the IBM Docs for Sentinel
