  • 1.  Standardized DFBETAs not showing?

    Posted Mon June 26, 2023 10:59 AM

    Hello everyone,

I'm a student who is experiencing a very last-minute problem with SPSS right the weekend before my exam... I'm still  very much a beginner, so please bare with me if this is a dumb question.

For a school exercise, I need to be able to list all cases with a standardized DFBETA for a certain variable with a score that is greater than +1 or smaller than -1, and analyze these. I've already created them and determined through Analyze > Descriptive Statistics > Descriptives that there are definitely cases fitting these criteria:

However, when trying to identify these cases, for example looking for the case which has 1,14458 for Standardized DFBETA opptotz (variable name: SDB1_1), a lot of cases don't show any score for SDB1_1 (nor for any other standardized DFBETA)?
When sorting the cases by right clicking on SDB1_1 > Sort Descending to try to look for the highest scoring case of -1,14458, suddenly even less cases seem to have a visible score for SDB1_1, the -1,30992 case nowhere to be found. Same with SDB2_1 and SDB3_1.
Could somebody please explain to me what I'm doing wrong and why all these cases have a . instead of a score?

That is most likely due to there being missing values for some of the variables in the regression.  No dfbetas or other casewise statistics can be computed for those cases.

Another possibility is that a sample selection was in effect when the regression was run, so, again, no dfbetas would be computed for the excluded cases.
