  • 1.  SQL data modeling tool for i

    I'm looking for a data modeling tool for i, that would be compatible with 7.5, and allow me to create nice db-diagrams from existing objects or generate newly designed objects... 

    Now I've asked IBM Support, if there is going to be an update for IBM Data Studio (that seems stuck at 7.2) and the answer was, that this product had been discontinued.

    Has anyone any suggestion?

    Hi Stephan,

    I think there are several options. As I understood you want to draw an Entity Relationship Diagram, right?

    You could use DBeaver Community Edition for this purpose. It has an ERD Designer and can be connected to your IBM i through jt400 Driver.

    Xcase for i is the only data modeling tool that I'm aware of that has kept current with the Db2 for i SQL support.

    Hi Stephen, 

    Back in the chaos age of 2020 , I have evaluated Infosphere Data Architect, that had support for 7.3 at that time. 

    Perhaps give that also a shot?
