  • 1.  SPSS Menu Editor - can I delete menu items?

    Is it possible to delete (or reorder) menu items with the Menu Editor? The SPSS user guide only explains how to add items. There is a context menu that appears in grey that includes Delete, but it is not active.#

    I want to know how to do this because on some display settings, the File menu is too long and the bottom items - Exit in particular - can't be reached. (This frustrates my students when they try to follow along in class.)

    I'm using SPSS 29.02.0 on Windows 10.

    The built-in menu items can't be deleted other than what is automatically not shown if a menu item is not licensed.  However, extension commands can be uninstalled, and their menu items will disappear.  There are some of these on the File menu that students might not need, so you can probably shorten it a little.  Extension commands have a menu icon that is a white "+" on a blue or green background.

    To delete an extension, go to Extensions > Custom Dialog Builder ...
    Then in that File menu, there is an uninstall item for extensions.  However, this would have to be done on each system.

    Note that if you drop down a menu such as File, you can still cursor up or down, and the menu will scroll as needed.
