Hello all! I'm new to this forum but I thought this might be the best place to ask. I recently bought a new laptop (it's actually a Rog Zephyrus g14 gaming laptop) with an AMD Ryzen 9 5000 series processor and installed my university's licensed copy of SPSS, which is Windows SPSS 25 - 64 Bit. Prior to this device, I was utilizing a Windows Surface Pro 2-in-1. I had no issues with SPSS with my Surface Pro but that laptop "crapped" out, so I got a new one.

Here's where the problem starts. For my Adv. Statistics II course, I had to do run a mediation and moderation. Each had its own data set. I had no problems running the linear regression for the mediation. For the moderation, I clicked Analyze -> Regression -> Linear... and I soon as I clicked "Linear," SPSS closed out. I've tried different analyses and different data sets, and now the same thing happens every time. I have also restarted my laptop multiple times as well as a proper shutdown and turning back on. I have also uninstalled SPSS and reinstalled it, and the same thing keeps happening.

My school's tech support told me to reach out here, so maybe someone else could provide guidance? Based on my internet search and talking to peers, this is a problem that Mac users face with SPSS, but my laptop isn't a Mac, so I'm not quite sure what the deal is. Any and all support and suggestions would be appreciated!

I haven't heard of a problem like this, but to gather more diagnostic information, do this.
Open a Command window and do a cd to the directory where Statistics is installed.
    Start Statistics by running
    .\stats
Open a data file and try the Linear menu.

If Statistics crashes, you might see error messages or a traceback in that Command window.  Post that.  (You can select all the text with the mouse and press Enter to copy it to the clipboard.

I meant to add, if your version of Statistics has Diagnostic Tool on the Help menu, run that.  (I don't recall which released introduced that.)

Hi, Ken. I haven't heard of this issue, either. However, I'd like you to try starting SPSS from a command line. In a command window (DOS prompt), go to the directory where you installed SPSS and at the C: prompt type spss.com and hit enter. Replicate that same crash and please let me know is SPSS sends any information back to the command window. Thanks.
