  • 1.  Spool files created by user with *WRKSTN

    Posted 10 hours ago

Can someone please tell me how the IBM i determines what output queue to send spool files to when the user has *WRKSTN for their print device and output queue? I've noticed that one of our partitions it goes to QPRINT in the library QGPL, while on another partition they go to PRT01 in the library QUSRSYS. I initially thought it was the system value QPRTDEV, but that value is the same on both partitions. The value is PRT01. Is there a system value somewhere else that drives where those spool files go?

I figured it out. I did some more poking around and I found a device description for a printer called PRT01 that does not exist on the other LPAR.  I confirmed that is the source of the problem. Deleting the device description and recreating just the output queue will solve the problem.  I wish I had thought about that sooner.

IBM Support document that explains the "flow" to determine where spool files end up.
