Something went wrong while you were adding or editing the drill-through definition

  • 1.  Something went wrong while you were adding or editing the drill-through definition

    Posted Thu January 16, 2020 12:01 PM
I've created a prompt for a target report. When I go to add the drill through from the visualization in a dashboard, I get the following error message. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

11.1 R4. I wish it would give you more details about the error.

    Hi Sarah,

You may want to try setting the report property Run with full interactivity to Yes. Other users have found that doing this makes their drill-through setup work properly

You can try below to see if drill through is working on dashboard:-
    • Create one Calculated Item with  text "Drill Through Report".
    • Use Summary Visualization and drag this text item to it.
    • Define Drill through on this visualization for Target report  using parameters available.

    Hi Sarah,

How many measures are you adding to the visualization?

    Cheers,
    Trevor

It's a line graph with three different measures over a period of five years. So years are on the x-axis and dollar values are on the y-axis, The measures are pro forma value, projected value and industry standard value.

    Hi Sarah

I've reproduced this error (I logged this earlier in another version). You should be able to just add in 1 measure, add the drill and then add the rest of the measures.

This is something we are planning an R5 fix for but would need to be requested for R4 via an APAR.

    Cheers,
    Trevor

    Hi Trevor and *.

    CA 11.1.5

I get the same error as Sarah.

Have a simple target report with one parameter.
Have a pie visualisation on a dashboard with 2 measures.
When I now setup the drill-through definition on the pie, the nI get the same error.

    Tests:
A drill-through from report to report works.
A drill-through from dashboard's pie to a report without parameter works as well.

Unfortunately I could not find any additional info in any log file.

    Any ideas?

    BR and keep healthy,

    Juergen

    Hi Juergen

I will need to try it here. Are you on the GA version of R5?

    Cheers,
    Trevor

    11.1.5 is R5 (CA 11.1 Release 5)

I tried this in an R5 I had running but did not see the issue. I will spin up my R5 GA when I finish up what I am currently working on.

    Hello Trevor,

while you wrote you have tested it with 11.1.5 without problems, I have done some more tests as well.
I really tested a lot and finally I think I found the problem.

As soon as I have a "stacked column"-visualization on a dashboard, I cannot create a drill-through definition on this or on any other visualization of this dashboard.
The "Drill-through definition: ..... "-window appears for less than a second before the error-msg is displayed.

But this depends on how the "stacked column"-visualization is defined.
If the "length"-parameter contains 2 measures, the drill-through-definition fails.
If there is only 1 measure defined, it works!

Please find attached a picture of a failing "stacked column".
The result of this visu. is correct, It's 1 column with 2 different values (and colours) which in sum presents the value shown at the Y-axes.

    Hope that helps!!

By the way, what is the difference between R5 and R5GA?

    I'm on  "IBM Cognos Analytics 11.1 R5"

    Hello Juergen
Thanks for the update. I did some work on this but was unable to make any headway. This information should help.

The original version I tested with was part of an IF (Interim Fix), released after the GA (General Availability). We release IFs when we are required to supply fixes after the GA is released. The R5 is Release 5 of that stream.

So we may put out Cognos 11.1.5/11.1 R5 (GA) in January and release Cognos 11.1.5/11.1 R5 IF1 with specific fixes a couple months later if required.

    Hi Juergan,
I tried this in the earliest and latest 11.1.5 version in different browsers and I don't see any issues. When I get time I will make a gif and show you what I did. Maybe it will help move this forward.
I tested on Chrome and Firefox,

    Hello Trevor,

    problem still exists :-(

My workaround is to have an extra dashboard for developing without a "stack column"-visu. , creating there the drill through definitions and copy/paste that visu. to the original dashboard. Drill-through works this way.

Would be nice when I could get the gif you announced.

    Hi Juergen,
I think I have reproduced the issue. I do more testing and get back to you.
My only suggestion at the moment is to use the work-around of adding in 1 measure, then the drill then the 2nd measure.

Has anyone ever found a fix or definitive cause for this?  I have 11.1.7 and I am still seeing this issue.
