    Dear Jerry

What is the type of data you want to transfer - source code or database records?  If database records, what format are they in your PC (CSV or some such)?   Are all the data in English?  If not, which language are they in?

    Hi,

What could be the different settings here for below cases:-

    1) for source code of ibm i member.

    2) for file records which are there in excel file and in text file.

    3) for file records which are in csv format and are present in excel and text files.

    4) for all the files which are in english  and other than english.

    Thanks.

    Hi Jerry,

This is what I did to transfer a CSV file to IBMi - creating a new file "MYLIB\TESTCSV".

    1. At the data transfer to IBMi window: Use Actions -> Create IBMi Database File -> (A Wizard that will guide you through the process of selecting your file and create a client file description of that physical file)

    2. You need that client file description for the next step: (the "pcdata.fdfx" was created on the first step)

    3. Transfer the file

    I hope this helps.

Jerry, If you download first and keep the transfer definition you have it for the upload.  Just replace the data.

Im no expert, and have never tried sending a text file to a pf src file before now, but I just gave it a go with the settings you had in your pic, and hit 'OK', and 'Start Transfer' and it worked for me? Is there an error holding you up? Or are you asking about what to put here on the transfer screen?

Jerry, You seem to be jumping between multiple scenarios.  For text download, upload, and file data to a spreadsheet the ACS functions are best.  See the ACS training for examples.  To get files between systems with all attributes you need to use save files.  Save on the first system, create a save file on the second, FTP in binary mode with replace.   Then you can restore on the second system.  Once restored all your queries can be run on the second system.

    Hi,

Suppose i downloaded a file as a excel using IBM i series data transfer tool then same file i want to upload to different library/source physical file then any example with screen shots to transfer this file for the same please which shows settings of ACS tool to do the same please?

    like is this correct ?

what to choose from for 'IBM i file type' Data or Source, if I have a excel file which has all details likewise, we see when we run select * from file name or do runqry () file name.

secondly should I check/uncheck this option 'use client file description'?

i tried both but each time got different errors and could not transfer file to desired library (which I mentioned under library/file(member) (tried both without member name and with member name but got different errors)

any example with consecutive screenshots until file is transferred successfully to desired library and source physical file location would be very much helpful here.

so, could someone please share relevant screenshots for the same here?

    Thanks much...

    Hi,

I was able to download source ember in text file to my desired location using this ACS tool as per advised settings but while using same settings when trying to upload keep getting below error: -

Note:- I tried even converting that for example here pg1.txt on my local system to fdfx file with save as option same file pg1.txt to pg1.flfx just so that at least this way it could be uploaded to IBM i but neither text file nor 'fdfx file' are getting uploaded to the desired library/source physical file for the desired source member name here.

I tried both ways first by checking that 'use client file description' and when it gave me mentioned error then tried unchecking and tried uploading the text file but for both got that error

    Then got below error:-

So, could someone please advise correct settings for uploading a text file into a desired source member name and desired library/source physical file location?

    Thanks much...

You have to save the FDFX file on the download in order to use it for the upload.  You can create one manually but that takes hours of work and is frustrating.  Format has also changed in different releases.  Check the box in the download file details.

When you download a text member and save the FDFX file you have two files on the PC.  One .TXT with your data and the other .FDFX that describes the format.  Replace the downloaded data with what you want to upload.  Use the upload function and point to the new PDM member you wish to replace.  Text PDM members will only have the row data transferred.

When uploading you are transferring the data in the .TXT file using the .FDFX file to describe the data to the transfer function.  Make sure you put each name in the correct spot.

Save file description as different name.

    List PC Files
    Upload new data.

and also, the file which is not there on IBM i itself and I want to upload a new text file inside a given source member whose type is 'TXT' and is currently empty and awaiting it's data to be filled from a text file which is on local desktop so how can I do so?

    Thanks

..Also, why it's not able to find out the file which is there and ready to be uploaded inside IBM i from my local desktop( from a given path on system  just for example from here : "C:\Users\myusername\Documents\IBM\iAccessClient\DataTransfer\av1.txt:"

And with above settings when I click on 'Start Transfer' button then get below error message: -

    Thanks much...
