I should have mentioned this in my initial post. The version we are trying to do this is on Cognos 11.1.7 FP1

    Thanks,

    Hi Sanish,

Check the list of roles that you have listed for your user in their preferences, I have attached the security and capabilities that are applied to a brand new content store to this article for your reference. My guess is that the Modeller role is attached to Analytics User and if you break the link between them you will lose the Admin Console.

    Hi Andy,

Thank you for the excel. That is very helpful and handy to have. Unfortunately, I don't see the Modeller role attached to the Analytics User role. I am not sure if this is the expected behavior. Would be good to get someone from the product team to chime in (@Jason Tavoularis maybe?)

    Thanks

    Hi,

A couple of question spring to mind from your reply.

1.. Do you have a Modeller Role ?
2.. Does the Modeller Role have any Members in it?

I removed Analytics Users from the Modeller Role this morning for another client and that removed the Admin Console totally.

    Regards
    Andy

    Hi Andy,

We do have the Modeller role but it does not have any role/groups within for which my test user belongs to.

The way I went about enabling this is as follows:
    1. Added the Analytics User role into the parent of the main Administration Capability with Access permission
    2. Added the Analytics User role into the parent of the main Administration > Data Source Connections Sub Capability with Access permission

Let me know your thoughts if you see something that I am doing this all wrong.

    Thanks

    Hi,

If you are specifically asking to access Administration in general by Analytics Users then you will get the Admin Console by default. The only way to remove Admin Console to to take Analytics Users out of any Administration capabilities.

So if I am understanding this correctly, I would need to do the following to get rid of the 'Administration console' (my original question from this thread) is to do the following

    1. Remove the Analytics User role into the parent of the main Administration Capability with Access permission
    2. Remove the Analytics User role into the parent of the main Administration > Data Source Connections Sub Capability with Access permission
    3. Add the Analytics User role to the Modeller role?

My end goal is to allow Analytics User users access to just the Data Server Connections pane only.

Let me know your thoughts if you think the above steps are a viable solution.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Initially I would do points 1 and 2 but not point 3 at the moment and then confirm that the Admin Console and all the MANAGE function is NOT visible. I will take a look at the capabilities now and see if there is a specific one that will just allow what you want.

    Hi,

I have just checked, if you make the Analytics Users role a member of the Modellers role then you will get just the Data Source Connections. The reason you get the Administration Console is to allow you the ability to access the legacy Data Sources section in order to maintain legacy data source connections that are not web modelling enabled such as those using SQL Server Native Client, TM1, PowerCubes etc.

This will be as IBM say 'by design' but I don't think you should be much underneath the 'Administration Console'.

    Regards
    Andy

    Thanks Andy.

I did try what you suggested and I do see the same as what you are seeing.

IBM's 'by design' is not ideal for what I was looking for.

THANK YOU for dedicating the time to walk me thru the options. Much appreciated!

    Hi Sanish,

No problem at all. You could submit an idea to IBM to provide a switch to turn off access to 'Legacy Admin Console'. I think its removal is on the roadmap once they have added all the functionality into the new UI.

    Andy
