  • 1.  Report vs Dashboard

    Hey IBM Cognos Community,
    I just started my journey as a Junior BI Cognos developer. I got a question in my mind as what's the difference between report and dashboard. 
    Your help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks Michael for sharing this info, I never knew that dashboard's cannot be exported to Excel.
    I will have to see how our business users react to this limitation in Dashboard's.

    Hi Vincent, 
    In later versions you can export visualization data as CSV. To do so edit the Dashboard, select a visualization and drag the bottom line up. Together with PDF export and e-mail sharing there exist some nice export possibilites for Dashboards. But unfortunately no automation by scheduling.

    Thanks Philip, I see that option. It would be user friendly if IBM could add another icon somewhere to export the file to CSV format rather than editing a visualization, dragging a line up and then exporting the  data to CSV.

    Hi @Brennan Fox, Thanks for considering this! Please be aware that in this community as well as in our company there exists demand to schedule dashboard output by e-mail. In my opinion this would add a singificant value to dashboards.
