Whilst not documented and probably frowned upon by IBM - I always remove the DM qualifier from any report expressions. The attached PDF shows how it gives better Filter Text and more portable reports,  

For some reason they made this more hard work in 11.2.4.  

Essentially I am using the same syntax as a data module with a report (you can even remove the [] brackets in a report if you want to go completely wild!). If there is a supported method of achieving the same result then let me know.
