  • 1.  RDz with EGL

    Posted Thu March 31, 2011 01:54 PM
    Hi Folks,

I have full installed RDz with EGL V.8.0.1, but i didn't find the EGL perspective.
And there isn't EGL capability in preferences.

    Note:

I have installed too RBD V.8.0.1 in another SDP package.

Does anybody have some idea ?

    Thanks !

    Hsieh,

I am not sure how you invoked the install of RDz with EGL. Did you use the launchpad and choose both RBD and RDz to be a coordinated install...or did you use Installation Manager to install RDz and then RBD.

Either way, you need to make sure they are installed in the same SDP (package). If not, RDz will not know anything about RBD and you would not get EGL capabilities/perspectives.

    Hi Mark,

I have donwload RDz801EGL-Trial and i used IM to install one. The RBD was install using IM.

    The question is:

My customer is a RDz user but not EGL, and now they want to use EGL (VAGen Migration).
then i'm installing the RDz with EGL to trial if work fine. But I didn't find the EGL perspective.

I have installed in same desktop RBD 8.0.1 with SDP and SDPShared folder, and now I have install RDz 8.0.1 with SDP8 and SDPShared folder.

But I don't want the RBD EGL, Does I need uninstall RBD and just install the RDz ?

and how to available EGL perpective on RDz ?

    Thanks

not sure what is going on..so if you want to attach that..maybe it would explain.

    Hsieh,

    Thanks for the doc.

What I found out was the RDZ with EGL trial does not include the RBD trial images. Basically, RDz with EGL is a bundled offering of RDZ and RBD. To enable both sets of functionality, you install RDz and RBD separately.

So, the RDz folks were expecting you to also download the RBD trial and install this or use an existing copy of RBD if you have it. They must be installed in the same software development package in Installation Manager. Currently, you have two separate Software development Packages (one with RBD and one with RDz). They still share the same shared directories, but the plugins loaded at startup time are unique to the package.

I am working with the product managers to see if I can make this more clear on the website or get RBD included when you do the RDz with EGL download.

    hmmmm !!

    It doesn't sound like good.

    If I understood,

The customer need acquire the RDz with EGL product and buy RBD product too ?
    Or
Acquired RDz with EGL and RBD is in RDz product package ?

and I understood that I need to do two installation in IM to RDz and RBD. Yes !?

Thanks a lot for you explanation.

    Hsieh,

Sorry if I was not clear. This is only an issue with the trial.

The RDz with EGL trial does not include the images for RBD. So if you want to try both RDz and RBD on a trial basis, you need to download both trial versions and install both trials copies.

If you purchase RDz with EGL, when you download it or get the media package, you will get the all the code you need for both RDz and for RBD. So a customer does not need to purchase both RDz with EGL and RBD.

In either case, you will end up installing RBD and RDz with IM.

    Does this help?

Crystal !! I'm more relaxed now.

I have uninstalled and installed RDz with EGL in same SDP and SDPShared RBD package and both works fine.
The EGL perspective was enable now.

    Thanks for help.

    Hi Folks,

Sorry to rejuvenate the old thread... I have got similar issue out there...

We are currently on RBDv9.1.1 and we are exploring options to migrated to RDzv9 or latest. Hence I have installed following in same SDP package:

Rational Team Concert - Client for Eclipse 4.2.x IDE 4.0.3 (Internal Version 4.0.3000.RTC-I20130517-1856-r403)
    IBM® Rational® Team Concert Integration for System z 4.0.3.3 (Internal Version 4.0.3003.rdz9013-teamz-403-I20140820_0654)

However, I am not able to find EGL perspective.

    Parvez,

V9.0 and V9.1 versions of the product cannot shell share.

See the following Technote link on the valid shell share combinations:

    http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21279139

    take care.

    Hi Parvez,

    Try to do following:

    1. Launching RDZ with the parameter -clean.  Open RDZ properties and put in the end -clean parameter.

    install_directory\SDP\eclipse.exe -product com.ibm.rational.rbd.product.v91.ide -clean

    2. Create a new Workspace.

** Remove -clean parameter after launch.

    Hi,

I am not sure what is going on.   Since you are just trying to bring up RDz, you may want to open a PMR with that team.

    But one suggestion...

Did you try and start the product each time you added a new software package and then see which of the 4 was causing the issue.

    For example:

    Install RDz 9.1.1

    start RDz

    Install RBD 9.1.1

    start RDz

    and so on.

Although, Clean option doesnt solve the problem but removing SD_2 and Installing from fresh has resolved it.

Probably cause has some thing to do with un-istallation of Rdzv9.0 and installation of RDzv9.1 in same package.

Fresh Installation went fine and I followed invoking each software after installing it in package.

    Thanks Marks & Hsieh  Smile

    Menezes,
