R12 Quick Guide Discussion

  • 1.  R12 Quick Guide Discussion

    Posted Thu February 09, 2017 10:11 AM

I wanted to start a discussion around your R12 questions.  I have been working on setting up individual Quick Guides centered around R12 content (below are links to the existing blog posts).

In this discussion I hope that we will be able to figure out where I should concentrate when making more Quick Guides.  Any questions or topics would be greatly appreciated.

You feedback is important and I would like to make sure that I am posting Quick Guides around the questions and concerns that you all may have.

    Existing Quick Guides:

R12 Quick Guide:  Fixed/Variable Reporting and Allocations

R12 Quick Guide: App Dev Reporting and Allocations

    R12 Quick Guide: LookupContains

R12 Quick Guide:  Fixed/Variable Reporting and Allocations

    Thank you,

    Doug Mahan

Haven't moved to R12 yet, but looking forward to it - and definitely following this thread in prep! Thank you for doing this!

Well if you have any questions on how the system is different between R11 and R12 I could help them too.  I am glad you are following, and hopefully we get some good questions :-)

@Douglas Mahan you may want to add a link to these short videos.  They explain each of the different components

For me, I feel the TBM Studio R12 Knowledge Base product page covers this.

Hi Doug, I am currently building our model in v12. We have successfully managed to report on Applications, spend by Cost Pool and IT Owner, as well as financial information regarding our IT employees, for all of 2016 and the early part of 2017 but I am struggling to get Project Costs flowing from Cost Source to the Project Model/Allocation. Do you have any guides that could assist with this? My organisation is quite unique in that we don't have cost centres, so I am having to find different ways to try and move cost in the right direction. Would appreciate any assistance!

    Scott,

For the Cost Source to Projects allocation line, there is not any specific documentation around that allocation line specifically, but even that you do not have Cost Centers within your Cost Source, do you have a way to identify the line items that are related to projects?  The typically key is based on Project ID within the Cost Source (i.e. GL).  If you can get that information we can send that cost up to the Projects object.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Hi Ryan, yes we do have a way to identify project cost in the GL, in the Description we have the Project Code at the start, e.g PR0123 Project A, we have a column that looks up the first 3 characters in the Description, and if they are PR0 then Is Project = Yes. I thought I had the correct mapping and the correct keys in place, but no money moves to Projects. When I look at 'From' you can see in the CS_Project Key's are working and identify the Project cost, as the PR0 numbers are there along with the project title, but then that cost is not getting Allocated (£0 and 0% Allocated) to the Project Destination. I hope I've explained that well enough!

    Scott,

If you go to the model and go the Cost Source pull in the CS_Project Key and identify one that is not null and then pull in the same key from the Projects Master Data.  See if they match.  If they don't you may have to update to make them match.  Also, if they do match, you may have to add a trim function to potentially remove any blank spaces that we can't see.

Looks like a very useful thread! Do we have any documentation on how to configure the Infrastructure & Apps module? Exactly what data is necessary and what each data field means?
