Purpose of the Contract Reference field on PRs and POs

    Hi,

     

    We've just started using Purchase Contracts in Maximo.  What is the purpose of the Contract Reference field on PRs and POs in Maximo?  Does this field have any actual functionality behind it in Maximo or is it just a reference field for reporting?  What would be the use case or reasons to use this functional over issuing a Blanket Release PO.    I issued two POs (standard PO with a contract reference and a blanket release PO off the same contract – just for discovery purposes).   I see the both POs (with a Contract Reference or a Blanket Release PO) from the contract when viewing release costs on the Contract even though only the release PO triggers the data populated in the release costs fields.

    Hi Nancy,

    Not all Purchase Contracts require a release to be created.  You can also have 'Purchase' and 'Price' Purchase Contracts.  Perhaps you have agreed upon pricing for items from a supplier and any time you buy the item from that supplier, it costs x dollars. 

    The Contract Reference field will automatically be filled in on the PR / PO if created automatically through the Reorder process or in the case of a blanket, created as a Release from the PR.

    You can also manually select the Contract Reference on the PR or PO and then use the Select Contract Items button to add line items based on pricing from the Contract. 

    You can also have the Contract reference at the line level - this may happen if you have line items from multiple contracts on the same PR/PO with same vendor.
