We are setting up preloaded DB in Mobile 8.9(Maximo EAM 7613) and were looking at the pre req steps as given in the technote below:

Need couple of clarifications related to the setup: (we plan to implement Technician app in 40 sites)

1.If preloaded DB is created based on the "default insert site " of the "Run As User" (setup in MobileDbGeneration crontask), does that mean we need to setup 40 person groups (one person group per site) and also 40 Cron instances for "MobileDbGeneration" cron task? 

2. If we have, let's say 200 users who will use "Technician" App, do we need to add them to their respective person group (based on their site)? for them to get the right DB on their device?

We have an internal idea I submitted for improving this process when users have a large variety of sites but currently, because our lookup data is filtered at the default insert site, it requires a cron task instance & person group for each insert site. And then yes you would need to add the users to the appropriate person groups to get that data downloaded.

This is my proposal and I'd be curious if you think this would help. The way I want us to streamline it is to add an additional parameter to the cron task instance for PERSONGROUP to associate the preload databases to. And add an additional parameter to specify a comma separated list of sites (or leave null for all sites) that we would iterate through. As we iterate through the sites, we would change the run as user's default insert site and generate the preload database and associate the PERSONGROUP & SITEID in the MOBILEDB database to store.

Then when a user logs in we could look at their default insert site & person group membership for ones we have a database and retrieve the appropriate one. You may still have multiple preload database cron task instances for functional differences but it should allow us to drastically reduce the number of instances & person groups and help avoid maintaining person group membership for users that change sites frequently.
