  • 1.  PowerVS backend queuing

    Posted Tue July 11, 2023 12:42 PM

I am working with a couple of instances in SAO01, and have worked with Dallas region too.

Queuing is really annoying, specially when customer is charged by the hour and they cannot start their LPARs after a long period of time (more than 1 hour),  are not able to open their consoles to work with the Operating System in restricted mode, cannot add or remove (attach/dettach) disks/volumes to their instances, or the console dies while working.

This issues are more frequent when working with SAO01 than other regions I have worked with.

I have also noticed than after a long period of time the tasks are killed, so we need to execute those operations just in case. Not all the tasks are logged to the Event Viewer and there is not notification about this "purge".

What can IBM Cloud/End Users do to avoid or minimize this kind of incidents?

    Hi Diego,

even if I never had such long times as your (like 1 hour to start an LPAR), I can confirm that I also have similar problems in Frankfurt DCs. My usual way is to use CLI utilities like ibmcloud. They work more stable and faster in my experience than IBM Cloud GUI.

    Thank you, Andrey

I am using the IBM Cloud CLI. I have a couple of scripts for signon procedures (BASH and PowerShell), LPAR creation, export to ICOS, Web Console from command line, snapshots, etc.

I agree with you, the web UI is not that stable. But when you have queuing none of them work.

ie: When you run an export procedure using a script (with multiple disks you cannot use the default, despite what docs say) you have OS and IBM Cloud tasks running, so when they are delayed or cleared from the queue you need to add manual maintenance.
