Am I missing something here? The documentation references this feature in regards to migrating LPARS. Do I have to have\enable some other feature in order to get this working? Does anyone know if there is another way to accomplish emulating power 6 on a power 7 machine?

Thanks for your response. What I mean is that I can't edit this setting from the LPAR properties and I don't see a place to change it in the profile. Attached is a screenshot showing what I mean by the setting is "static". It's a field that does not allow me to edit.

This setting can be changed by editing the profile of the LPAR in question and going into the "Processors" Tab. On the bottom of that window, there will be a "Processor compatibility mode:" field which is usually set to "Default", but you should be able to select Power 6 or Power 6+ Compatibility mode from there.

Since this is a change to the LPAR profile - it is NOT dynamic and you will have to do a shutdown and re-activate the LPAR from the HMC.

You are probably on a partition that is using all of the system resources or the one that came by default with the P710. On thos you do not get an option to chnage the Compatibility mode

You will when you create a new lpar without using all of the system resources ( normal lpar)
