I have a power 7 (710 express) with 1 LPAR running AIX 6.1. I'd like to change the processor compatibility mode to power 6 for some testing. In reading through the documentation regarding processor compatibility mode, I believe that I should be able to change the processor compatibility mode to power 6 through the HMC by modifying the properties of that LPAR, however when I tried to do this the compatibility mode is a static field that I can't change.

Am I missing something here? The documentation references this feature in regards to migrating LPARS. Do I have to have\enable some other feature in order to get this working? Does anyone know if there is another way to accomplish emulating power 6 on a power 7 machine?

    Thanks!

    Hope that helps,

    Thanks!

On the bottom of that window, there will be a "Processor compatibility mode:" field which is usually set to "Default", but you should be able to select Power 6 or Power 6+ Compatibility mode from there.

Since this is a change to the LPAR profile - it is NOT dynamic and you will have to do a shutdown and re-activate the LPAR from the HMC.

    Hope this helps.

You will when you create a new lpar without using all of the system resources ( normal lpar)
