  • 1.  Permissions question

    Posted 04/22/19 03:39 PM
I have a relational package that is open to some users to write reports. There is a larger group of users who should not be allowed to open this package in Reports but I want to allow them to run a Report View that is using this package. Can someone please help me what the permission settings should be for the group to just run preset report views?

My thinking was that if I deny them Read and Write but Grant them Traverse and Execute that would work but it does not.

    Any help is highly appreciated.

@Adrienne Beronilla - What version of Cognos are you using? I tested using 11.1.1 and I was able grant a user Traverse and Execute and deny Read and Write  and the user is not able to open the package in Authoring (Report Studio) but they could execute a report view built off of the same package.

Hi Denny, thanks for checking and confirming that it works for you. We are on 11.0.13. I will call in a service ticket to have IBM look into it. I thought it should have worked, too.

    Thanks, Adrienne

@DENNY NAREZNY I just figured it out: beyond the permission settings, the Capability Specification Execution has to be also granted to the user/group.
