  • 1.  PAW books, relative vs static environment

    Hi all

    In a PAW book, I want my data-grids to resize or stretch to all corners (lover/right) when I resize the browser but buttons ant textboxes should remain static. 
       (the design area of a book/tab should stretch) 

    How can I do this in the latest version of PAW?

    Remarks...

    • This was possible in the early releases of PAW
    • Tis behavior is correct when I expand the grid by pressing the top right arrows but then neither buttons nor tabs will show.
    • This desired behavior is default in the PAW workbench

    Hi Asgeir,

    Indeed the Workbench is treating widgets differently as there is no dashboard capabilities.

    The best approch to address your question would be to use the Responsive grids on the cube viewer, then you should get as much of the dashboard real estate as possible at the moment.

    Hello,

    It's a complex issue to describe ^^. I think Asgeir is refering to the fact that the canvas behind the view isn't responsive (not the view grid itself). The view is responsive in workbench (because there's no canvas) but not in books (because attached to a non-responsive canvas)

    I Cannot find the responsive grid feature in our PAW, version 2.0.82
    This feature would perhaps ease the pain if available. 


    I also totally agree with @Paul C that the main problem is that the canvas behind the view is not responsive. 
    I this perhaps on the drawing board, to make the canvas responsive?

    Following is the documentation regarding the responsive grid feature
    Set properties for a view - IBM Documentation
    Responsive gridResponsive grid makes the view responsive to size changes. Enable the property to set a fixed number of columns and rows and the view displays the fixed number of columns and rows when you resize the grid.

    If this feature is just setting the grid to display a fixed number of rows and columns (as described) then this is worse than helpful. 
    I want to see as much of rows and columns as possible within the browser.

    Hi Asgeir,
    this responsive grid feature was released about a year ago, just expand the chevron ^ and it should show up in PAW 2.0.82. Some users did find that option quite useful, so try it for your scenario.

    I am trying to make sense of this whole thing. Here is a thought. 

    This trouble really started when IBM introduced the "Page size" feature for various fixed size of the canvas. 
    I wonder why this was introduced and the only reason I can find is to help printing (Letter, Legal, A4, ...), but this is just a guess. 
    I cannot think of any use for printing from PAW so this is all very confusing.

    I agree, Asgeir, we should give some more examples in documentation on these options.

    Also we should have a new feature this year where a single widget template;
    it would be possible to save the template with a view on one tab at 100% height and width.

    Asgeir,

    These options in these preference are for the book layout for the most common and known screen sizes.
    If you'd want to print to PDF, the Driver will have default screens that may match those common layout sizes to make it easier, so you'd be able to use those as the shortcuts.
