Disclaimer ... I am not sure of the correct terminology for some of these steps or items. Not sure if the contents of a Package is a Data Source or just Data Items.
Re: Package suddenly changes its' Data Source
We support many separate instances of Cognos 10 to 11. When our clients were predominately on Cognos 10 (10.0.1 and 10.1.1) this issue happened maybe 3 times over 3 years. But now on Cognos 11 (11.0.9 and 11.0.13) it has happened 4 times in the last 7 days. We use SQL Server for the data and the Content Manager database. Some of our clients are hosted at a data center which has a very controlled environment and some host their own Cognos and SQL Server.
With each release, we build a complete deployment package in Framework Manger that contains all the canned reports and Packages. The clients download the deployment package and Import it into Cognos. We create one package in 10.0.1 and one in 11.0.9.
With each release the deployment package imports successfully. It works for weeks, and then one day at one Cognos instance an Imported package starts pointing to a different Source. For example, at ClientX, the Loans Package has the Mortgage data items. Of course, all the scheduled ClientX Loans reports fail with Item Not Found and if you create a new report and add Loans as your source, you see the Mortgage data items not the Loans data items. I can find no pattern to the issue. It is different clients, different configurations, different packages, different invalid Data Sources, nobody has re-Imported anything, at the data center nobody can rename packages, etc
If you re-Import just the Loans package it does not fix the issue. Team Contents -> Loans package is still using the Mortgage data source. The only "fix" that I have found is to rename Team Content -> Loans to Loans_Old and then reimport Loans. But of course, now all the client's custom reports using the Loans package now point to the Loans_Old package, which still has the wrong data source.
Question 1 - has anyone else ever experience this issue? Any thoughts?
