Anyone got any ideas how I can get this info back ?

I had a similar problem, which initially started with service processor but later involved replacement of the VPD.

You may also find dynmaic LPAR and some other function may not be working.

You should reopen your call with IBM as it does not sound like your problem is fully fixed and they need to resolve?

Are eventual resolution for the last problem with replaced vpd was
    1. Shut down all LPARs and power off system
    2. Activate the service processor pinhole reset switch on the system's operator panel
    3. Bring the system and LPARs up again

You shoud also ensure you have applied the latest firmware and HMC code as there are known problems with all but the latest that can trash your service processor as we found to our detriment back in November
