    Qeustion:
is there a way to configure a virtual serial adapter on LPAR so it can be used for remote console openning on older P4 server?
I would like to cable a serial adapter/port from P5 with serial port on P4 server and then use kermit to open a console from P5 LPAR.

is it feasible? if yes what steps are to be done?

or maybe the only way is to buy and install dedicated/physical serial adapter to the P5 LPAR?

From my memory, I think its at least 9 years old and topped out at 1.3 GHz.

If you just want to have a ASCII console for the POWER4, which I assume you are using this machine is "stand alone" mode i.e. without HMC, then I would strongly recommend you just sticking with a simple dumb terminal (admittedly hard to get these days) and failing that using a old laptop with a serial port and failing that a modern laptop with a USB to serial converter. This should be fairly simple to get going in say an hour (if you feel lucky) with a cross over cable and those 8 bit, 9600 2 stop bits to sort out.

Its been 15 years since I have got an AIX machine to connect to another machine on an ASCII cable. I guess all the plumbing is still there but you are going to have to dig deep into the archives to work out how to do it. You will also find IBM machines extremely fussy over the cable an will insist in ALL the ASCII lines being perfect. I would guess this would be likely to take a few days, many cables, a "pin out box" so you can check and connect the lines and lots of research. I think AIX has some program as an alternative to kermit (gosh that takes me back 20 years). Perhaps it was called miniterm ! Search all the "bin" directories from *term.

    Best of luck, Nigel Griffiths
