  • 1.  Oracle to DB2 Migration using IBM DCW

    Posted Wed January 17, 2024 01:42 PM

Has anyone successfully migrated Oracle DB to DB2 using the DCW tool? My attempt to migrate the entire database encountered challenges. Even when migrating a few tables with a count less than 10, the process extended beyond two days. If you've achieved a smooth migration with DCW, could you share your insights? Additionally, do you have any recommendations for alternative migration tools?

    Hi Letto,

I don't know of any other free tool that will do the migration work for you.

I worked a lot with DCW years ago and  I remember that 10% of stored procedures and functions will have to be completely modified.

Remember that db2 11.x has external tables that resolves to an object type used in Oracle.

    Hello Letto,

years ago I used the IBM Data Movement Tool, a java tool developed in the early 2000s. It is still available from public IBM GitHub (https://github.com/IBM/idmt) but are some years that it is not yet maintained, you can try with it. I used also DCW but in all the database migration projects I have worked there was always a percentage of manual DDL modification activity.

    Best Regards.

    Roberto.
