Thanks. I was puzzled because when I opened a new data file, it had a size of 40 rows and 40 columns, and I was not able to expand that to a larger number of rows and columns by dragging the windows larger or any other way. I wanted to do so in order cut and paste some data from excel that had 80 rows. Finally, I had to import some excel data that required a bigger size and then spss accommodated it. So, i was wondering if there was a command that defined the number of rows and columns in the spss data sheet.

Again, not sure what you mean. An empty dataset does not have a size. If you want a larger data window, you can just drag the borders as you would with any window to change the size.

when I open a new data file in SPSS, the size is only 40 by 40. Why is this and how can I expand this size?
