Number of core and MIPS relation - RD&T

    Hi All,

How to decide the number of Core in Linux machine based on MIPS. lets say if I have a mainframe of 1000 MIPS how much core Linux machine should I go for and whether it should be a normal PC or a server class machine.

Kindly let me know a way to calculate that.

    Thanks

It will be difficult to make that estimation.  Are you wanting to give a zOS LPAR a certain number of MIPS?  There are limiting factors (search this forum for Emily) that pretty much make three or maybe four as the max number of CPUs that will benefit an LPAR.  anything more than that would probably not give you any benefit.  Performance gets even worse if you run a sysplex.

We found with the restriction of cores that are actually usable, the biggest performance enhancement you can make is the HDD.  Our cloud instances are the best performing ones we have.
