  • 1.  NFS share on IBM FlashSystem 5045

    Posted 24 days ago

My Employer made a mistake in purchasing an IBM FlashSystem 5200 to have a NFS share between 3-5 servers. I found out the IBM FlashSystem 5200 does not support a NFS share. To resolve this issue, my Employer decided to purchase an IBM FlashSystem 5045. Google is saying that the IBM FlashSystem 5045 supports a NFS share, but I am not seeing it in the support documentation. Can someone confirm that the IBM FlashSystem 5045 supports a NFS share, and give me the URL link of the directions on how to set it up. Thank you.

    Hi Ethan.

As far as I know, none of IBM's flash systems support NFS or SMB. Storage Scale and Storage Scale Systems are the only ones that support these protocols, as well as S3.

You asked this two weeks ago in here

I think you got the answer you needed. Why are you still asking the same question?

    @Nezih Boyacioglu
I am requesting information for another model, the IBM FlashSystem 5045. The model I asked about 2 weeks ago is for the IBM FlashSystem 5200. After you informed me that the IBM FlashSystem 5200 is unable to support a NFS share, and I forwarded that information to my Management. They went ahead and purchased a IBM FlashSystem 5045 NL-SAS to replace the IBM FlashSystem 5200.
Our Architect requires a storage solution for:

    1. One pool to store Qemu/KVM VMs that are attached to each of the hosts at the same mount point. That way, a VM can be moved from one host to another by simply un-defining from one host and defining to another.
    2. The second pool that will serve as a NFS share for the 3-5 hosts to transfer files back and forth.

Can the IBM FlashSystem 5045 NL-SAS support our Architect's requirements? If not, what do you recommend?

    Hi Ethan.

You might want to look at other vendors, such as NetApp.
Their entry-level products might be what you are looking for.
    AFF C190.
    AFF A250
    FAS 2720.
    FAS 2750.
    They support the following protocols:
    FC, iSCSI, NFS and SMB.

I know our lab infrastructure  is using NFS which is configured in the main host at the Operating System level, the rest of the hosts can just access it as NFS clients.
