  • 1.  New Installation setup failover of application server

    Posted 05/14/21 12:05 PM
As we look to install Cognos 11.2, thought I might experiment with failover in our Dev environment.  I have a web server with the gateway installed, and then I have the Content and  Application layers installed on a second server.  Looking to set up a third server for the Content and Application for failover.  I'd use the same Content Store, so in the event that the primary application server went down, the second one would be available. Is there any issues with this sort of setup?  I am assuming that the failover would be setup in the webserver?

I am looking for some good documentation on this, or if anyone can give me some feedback, I'd appreciate it. Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Yep, that's totally fine.  Just FYI the Content tier is active/standby failover, the application tier is weighted round robin balancing so you'll get an extra bit of performance out of that setup.

In the gateway install Cognos Configuration just enter the 2nd dispatcher address, and if using IIS re-run the config script with the new dispatcher details.  I do sometimes find that removing the old config is needed when making larger changes though so keep that in mind if you have issues.

In both Content/Application tier machines, make sure you have both Content Manager's URI listed.
