  • 1.  My application doesn't run?

    Posted Thu January 21, 2021 03:27 PM

Hi, I've just installed SPSS Statistics for my user (I'm I.T. department) on Windows 10 using Java 1.8.0_251. I have licensed OK.

When I run the software nothing "happens". I can see 'IBM SPSS Statistics 19" in Task Manager, along with two Java Platform SW binary" processes, but nothing appears on screen.

I can run the Licencing program fine, and that confirms I am licenced.

Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting? Is my Java version OK for v19? I'm a bit stumped.

    Cheers,

I should mention I do see a splash screen on launch, but nothing after that.

Do you see it in the Task Bar? If so, it may be off screen for some odd reason. If so, select in the Task Bar, then press alt+spacebar. That will show the system menu on the edge of the screen. Do down cursor to the Move menu, and then press the appropriate arrow key until the window appears.

    I don't Jon no :-(

I should add that I see it in 'Background Processes' in Task Manager, not 'Apps'.

You should see the spssengine process in the background and SPSS Statistics in the Apps section. In the Details view, you should see spssengine and stats processes.

Try launching a different way: open a Command Prompt window, cd to the Statistics installation directory, and type stats.

You will see some traceback information that always shows up there, but there may be some other message that would offer a clue.

    Hi Jon,

Thanks for this, I see a Java Assertion error. I've told my user that v19 is not compatible with Windows 10, so we can upgrade to a modern version :-)
