    I have two p5 9111-520s that went down within about a day of one another. Neither will boot, and C1001020 is displayed on the operator panel. The machines never reach the standby state, and cannot be booted into AIX. I've tried resetting the service processor to no avail. Is it possible that both machines have experienced a service processor failure at almost the exact same time? Will a weak or dead time-of-day battery cause this?

    Thanks! Unless I missed something, if a reset of the service processor or firmware update doesn't fix it, the service processor needs to be replaced. I don't there's any way to update the firmware with the SP in this state. Is my assumption correct?

    I think that depends on if you can access the ASMI. If so, you may be able to do a reset, force a factory default, and boot a firmware update CD.

    Also, is there an HMC controlling them? If so, you can do the firmware upgrade there.

    Thanks again for the reply. An ASCII terminal plugged in to T1 shows nothing. I don't think ASMI is available until the service processor has reached standby. There is no HMC in use on either system. It's really odd that two machines are experiencing the same issue at the same time.
